FIFA chose Making Waves
1 December 2011

FIFA, the world governing body for the sport of football, has chosen Making Waves as the new service provider for their intranet, extranet and collaboration platform, to ensure a stable and user-friendly platform for more than 22 000 users for the years to come.

Making Waves 10 years
7 September 2011

We are to celebrate fascinating 10 years of company’s existence. It was 2001 when a group of 14 enthusiasts established Making Waves to serve a new market.

Making Waves was established with a strong belief in the fact that the functions and opportunities offered by interactive solutions would become increasingly important in virtually all parts of a company’s operations.

Today we are a leading innovation environment creating digital solutions. Our goal is to create enduring high quality and user-friendly solutions, using innovative technology platforms.

The past 10 years have been a great time for Making Waves.
We have gained Honorees and prizes, also won many interesting projects and therefore gained valuable customers worldwide. We managed large projects within all areas from government administration, e-commerce, intranet and social network services.

But first and foremost we built a team of highly skilled and precious employees. Thanks to their enthusiasm and proactive attitude we are strong and solid company today.

Thank you!

Grief and a small contribution
25 July 2011

The tragedy and the absurdity that happened on Utøya and the bombing of government buildings touches us all. Through news services, television, social media and on various online communities, we have had literally unlimited access to information. In a way we have been right in the events the entire weekend. We have seen the cruel and baffling up close and the personal stories that came in on Sunday from the youth is beyond comprehension.

In such a small nation, it is inevitable that we are just a few handshakes away from affected families. They are all in our thoughts and prayers.

We also know that many of our customers for have been affected both directly and indirectly. We have had and have ongoing projects for organizations such as DSS, several of the ministries and the Prime Minister's office. Many of their buildings are completely destroyed after the blast. LO and Fagforbundet are other customers affected by the massive destruction.

There are many people in these organizations that we care about and who are in our thoughts today. We feel with them, whether they experienced the terrifying events on 22 July at work or if they have had their workplace destroyed and their lives turned upside down as a result of the tragedies.

As of now, there are no indication about injured or directly affected people in our own organization. We can only hope that this situation will remain. As previously communicated, the building is intact, even though KIV 13 is located only a few hundred meters away from the blast.

Our small contribution to the government and the nations has been to develop an electronic condolence protocol. During the weekend one of our developers assisted the Government Administration Services in setting up this blog to be used together with the official condolence protocol announced by the PM during the national silence on Monday 25 July.

The address is: http://blogg.regjeringen.no/protokoll/ The services are of course provided free of charge.

The competition is organized by the Red Dot Design institute in Essen in Germany and 9 December, Making Waves was there to receive the award for the visual profile of Cities of the Future, a greenhouse project run by the Ministry of Environment.

"Cities of the Future was created by the government to reduce greenhouse emissions from the 13 largest cities in Norway. A climate-friendly city raises the quality of life for residents and we hope this award can help to highlight the project's good values, "said Ane Kolberg, communications advisor in the Ministry of Environment.

"It's been incredibly fun to work with a customer who has dared to think outside the box in terms of its artistic idiom and communication with the target group, “concludes Fjelldal.

Tailor made software training
26 February 2010

EPEX has commissioned Making Waves to build the complex software to support a major new oil industry training course.

Software Training for the Oil Sector
EPEX is a course designed to develop leadership skills for those up and coming oil sector professionals who aspire to senior management positions within their company.

The course will allow delegates to learn skills and develop understanding of:

  • Internationalisation: global perspective and portfolio management
  • Strategy Development: setting a direction and managing performance
  • Decision-making: commercial criteria and risk management
  • Reputation management: interaction and negotiation

The course takes 25 participants who are formed into the management Boards of 5 oil companies who wish to expand their operations internationally. The course takes them on a journey of 12 years of their company competing in the international market place for new opportunities and managing existing assets. They have to make big decisions based upon the information they have researched.

The course is run with the support of a sophisticated business simulation package that simulates in a very real way the impact of their decisions. The teams are supported by experienced oil company professionals and interspersed lectures on key areas of required expertise. The course is a mixture of classroom and time spent back in their “company offices” with time to negotiate with the other companies, government officials, NGO’s etc (play acted by the course administrators). The companies are informed of the results of their decisions in terms of opportunities won, the impact on their financials etc.

The teams compete along both the oil and gas value chain with difficult choices at each juncture. Much happens along the way in terms of unanticipated events that they need to deal with. They all learn from their own and others successes and failures.

Hopefully, when they are faced with similar issues in their own companies in the years to come they are better prepared to handle them. The course is intensive, but also fun and participants usually make long lasting friendships that prove useful as their career develops.

There will be teaching sessions on a variety of topics, to be adapted to the learning need of the delegates in areas such as Exploration Risk, Petroleum Economics, Finance and Accounting, Commercial Structure, Markets and Marketing, Gas Value Chain Dynamics and Oil and Gas Technology.

In addition they will learn much about their own management style and how to work as part of a high performance Multi-Disciplinary Team. The participants will also make new friends in the industry that may prove beneficial in their future careers.

Technal rolls out its new european sites
6 January 2010

Technal's new website provides enhanced content management features, and allows the company to showcase its diverse portfolio of quality products and services, to both the trade and consumers.

As well as incorporating new visual designs, the new site was integrated with the manufacturing system to ensure a powerful and easy-to-use news and communication platform. When developing new CMS, focus was on the editors who have now maximum flexibility at hand thanks to on-page editing feature. Rich modules of the CMS system such as multilingual support enable creating and comparing web pages in different languages. Pre-defined themes and templates for the website are to guard the corporate brand but at the same time allow to promote and communicate with the market individually. Additionally a number of interactive features were developed to support sales and marketing.

Operating as a number of separate businesses across Europe, it was crucial for Technal to allow separate countries the flexibility to promote different products for their markets, while maintaining a uniform brand.  Making Waves initially developed the website for the French business which was followed by the launch of the international site.  We are now in the process of localizing this site in Technal’s Europe branches such as Spain, Portugal as well as UK and Ireland even.
